Born April 6, 1805 in Strichen, Aberdeenshire, Scotland. Married in Scotland to bride who lived only a short time. Left Scotland for Canada in 1829. Contractor, worked on St. Lawrence Canal. Married Elizabeth Legg in Quebec, Canada, on May 21, 1838. See tree above for children. Came to Kane County, Ill., to work on a DuPage River aqueduct in Dec, 1838. Came to farm east of Millburn in 1841-2. Bought land from federal government. Around 1850, rented farm out, went to Lockport to work on Illinois and Michigan Canal. Not sure when returned. Became naturalized citizen of US in 1861. Died October 23, 1874, at age 69 years, 6 months, and 7 days. (photo available: 1865).
Born February 27, 1811, in Stewartfield, Aberdeenshire, Scotland. Came to Canada from Scotland in 1831. Lived with a married sister, a Mrs. Kerr. Married Peter Stewart in Canada, on May 21, 1838. Died February 8, 1889, at age 77 years, 11 months, and 11 days. (photos available: 1888, 1889).
