American Dream. After living and working a short time in
Milwaukee, he came to live in Lake County in 1949. Entering
the U.S. Army in 1951, he served two years in Geissen,

service, he married Shirley MacDonald on February 13, 1954

Public Schools, District 67, where he was a dedicated
employee for 38 years. His work ranged from bus driver-for
which some local residents still recall his services-to

greatest expansion. When he joined the District, there were
just two buildings-Halsey (demolished) and Gorton-with
construction on Deerpath School beginning then. In future
years he also participated in the construction and
subsequent renovations of Sheridan, Everett, Cherokee and
Deerpath. After his retirement from his post as Chief
Engineer in 1992, he was retained as a consultant by
District 67, again engaged in expansions and renovation.
Harry was legendary for his mechanical ability, effectively
and cheerfully helping his friends. For many years he was a
volunteer with local Boy Scouts, driving the bus to Camp
Ma-Ka-Ja-Wan in northern Wisconsin. He is a member of the
American Legion and a former President of the National
Association of Power Engineers. He served on the Board of
the East Fox Lake Cemetery.
