Katherine P. May
Katherine P. May, age 86, of Gurnee, passed away Monday, November 29, 2004, at
Victory Lakes Nursing Home. Katherine Smith was born December 1, 1918 in Florence,
Alabama, the daughter of Harvey E. and Mary Ethel (Kaufman) Smith. On June 24, 1939
she married William May at Gurnee Community Church.
She was an avid gardener and seamstress, and also enjoyed decorating and crafts.
Survivors include her son, Richard (Marjorie) May of Gurnee; her daughter, Karen
(John) Sherin of Old Mill Creek; five grandchildren, Joni (Pat) Tanner of Antioch, Curtis
(Heidi) May of Gurnee, Julie (Glen) Shaw of Gurnee, Jeffery (fiance Tanya) Sherin of
Old Mill Creek, and Kevin (Kristi) Sherin of Lindenhurst; nine great grandchildren,
Derek, Alex, Craig, Samantha, Charlie, Heather, Jessica, Katy, and Kory; and her niece,
Linda Oakes of Alabama.
Preceded in death by her husband, William May; and sister, Betty Thommenssen.
Visitation will be from 9:30 until the 10:30 funeral service, Wednesday, December 1,
2004 at MARSH FUNERAL HOME of Gurnee, 305 Cemetery Rd., Gurnee, IL.
Interment will be at Warren Cemetery, Gurnee. Memorials may be made to Vista Star
