ALFRED AMES JR. 1937 - 1992
Farm Bureau is saddened with the recent passing of Alfred Ames Jr.
of Zion, Illinois. Mr. Ames has left a void on the Farm Bureau
Board of Directors where he so ably served since 1978. Mr. Ames
was ill only a short time and his demise was a tremendous shock to
his family and friends. The Ames Dairy Farm has been operated on
173 west of Zion continuously since 1841 and was founded by Al's
grandfather.
Farm Bureau extends our most sincere expression of sorrow to Al's
wife, Gwen, and his immediate family. Lake County has lost a very
fine gentleman, Alfred Ames Jr.
Al Ames, Jr. of Newport Township, died March 19, 1992 at his home
at the age of 54.
He was born on November 4, 1937 in Kenosha, Wisconsin to Alfred H.
and Evelyn E. Ames. He lived on, and operated, the Ames family
farm in Newport Township. The farm was started by his great
grandfather and had been operated by the Ames family since 1841.
He attended the Antioch Evangelical Free Church and was a member
and director of the Lake County Farm Bureau, the Holstein
Association of McHenry and Lake Counties, and the Mt. Rest
Cemetery Board.
He is survived by his wife, Gwen; his mother, Evelyn Gould Ames of
Zion; a brother, John William (Twyla) Ames of Waukegan; a sister,
Barbara (Wallace) Heisted of Chicago; and a nephew, Kevin Ames of
California. He was preceded in death by his father, Alfred H.
Ames, Sr. on February 24, 1990.
Funeral services will be held on Sunday, March 22, 1992 at 3:30 PM
at the Antioch Evangelical Free Church, 42429 Tiffany Road,
Antioch with Pastor Ronald Ayers officiating. Friends may call at
the church from 1:30 to 3:30 PM, Sunday. Memorials to the church
would be appreciated in his memory. Interment services for the
immediate family will be held on Monday morning at Mt. Rest
Cemetery in Newport Township. The CONGDON FUNERAL HOME, 3012
Sheridan Road, Zion is serving the family.
