Millburn intersection to get signal
A permanent traffic signal will be installed at Route 45
and Grass Lake Road in Millburn.
County officials expressed the hope that the new signal
will also improve traffic conditions at a nearby Millburn
Road intersection.
The Lake County Board's Public Service Committee accepted a
proposal Wednesday from the Illinois Department of
Transportation to install a signal light at the Route 45-
Grass Lake intersection through a cost-sharing venture
between IDOT and Lake County.
The committee has received several complaints regarding the
Millburn Road intersection, which offers a limited view of
Route 45 to the north because of a large curve in the road
near the grass lake Road intersection.
Route 45 is a heavily traveled truck route and Millburn
Elementary School is several blocks east of Route 45 on
Millburn. As a result, the intersection is used heavily by
school buses.
Under terms of the joint agreement, the Lake County
Division of Transportation will prepare engineering plans
for the signal at the count's expense. IDOT will execute
the construction of the signals at its expense.
Committee member Robert Neal of Wadsworth said the
engineering should be completed in about a month. As a
result, the signal will be installed by the time school
begins in the fall, he said.
