official News Sun photograph
A plaque recognizing the inclusion of the Jake Strang House in Millburn
in the Illinois Register of Historic Places was presented Saturday to its
present owner, Mrs. Beatrice Anderson. From left: Margorie Leable,
Newport Township supervisor; State Sen. Adeline Geo-Karis of Zion;
State Sen. Karl Berning of Deerfield; Mrs. Anderson; and State Rep.
Don Deuster of Mundelein. The house at 18750 Millburn Road was built in
1856 and 1857 by John (Jake) Strang Jr., who came to this area with his
parents and three brothers in 1839, after being born in Scotland in 1828.
The Strangs were among the first settlers in the Millburn area. Jake
became a farmer, raising corn, oats and hay and maintaining a large
dairy herd. - Waukegan News-Sun, Monday, September 14, 1981.
