Rev. Glenn D. Strang
Rev. Glenn D. Strang, 87, of Mundelein, IL, passed away
Monday, August 18, 2003 at his home. He was born August 3,
1916 in Millburn, IL, the son of Victor and Cora (Dawson)
Strang. When he was 5 years old, his family moved to
Waukegan where he attended grade and high school. Mr.
Strang graduated from the University of Illinois in 1940
with a degree in education and from the McCormick Seminary
(Presbyterian) in Chicago in 1943.
On May 1, 1943 he was married to June M. Probst in
Waukegan. He was ordained by the Chicago Presbytery on May
11, 1943 and together moved to their first church in Green
Valley, IL. In 1945, Rev. Strang entered the Navy as a
Chaplain,serving as a LTJG.
He served as Minister of Education at St. John's
Presbyterian Church in Berkeley, CA before accepting a call
to the Presbyterian Church in Rochelle, IL. He also served
as pastor of churches in Pontiac and Kewanee, IL before
retiring in 1981. Rev, Strang was a member of the Blackhawk
Presbytery and served as moderator of his presbytery twice
and on many committees, councils and boards of his
presbytery and synod. Following his retirement, he and his
wife moved to Antioch, IL, where they lived until moving to
Mundelein in 1994.
Surviving are his wife of 60 years, June and their four
children, Richard (Susan) of Naperville, IL, Timothy
(Sally) of Iowa City, Iowa, Carol J. Bercos of Libertyville
and David (Bonnie) of Houston, TX; eight grandchildren,
Shane, Brett, Katie, Andrea, Kristi, Gregory, Nicole and
Tarek; two great grandchildren, Nathan and Cameron.
Funeral services will be held at 11 :00 a.m. Thursday,
August 21 at the First Presbyterian Church, 122 N. M.L.
King Dr. (Utica S1.) Waukegan. Visitation will be from 3:00
to 9:00 p.m. Wednesday at the BURNETT-DANE FUNERAL HOME,
120 W. Park Ave. (Rt. 176) Libertyville and for one hour
prior to services on Thursday at the church. Memorial
contributions can be made to either the Stronghold
Presbyterian Conference Center in Oregon, IL or to the
SEDOL Foundations, 18160 Gages Lake Rd., Gages Lake, IL
