Fred Fettinger
______________ Fred C. Fettinger, who died April 26 while
recovering from surgery, _______________. Services and interment will be
private.
Mr. Fettinger was born May 13, 1926 in Augsburg, Germany,
the first born of Leonhard Friedrich and Babette Kreszentia
Maria Gutschenreiter Fettinger. The family settled in
Waukegan in 1929.
A 1943 graduate of Zion High School, Mr. Fettinger attended
Purdue University and joined the Navy during World War II.
Upon discharge from the service, he began his life career
with the First National Bank of Waukegan, where he served
for 42 years. While at the bank, he met Dorothy Jacobs,
whom he married on June 17, 1950.
The Fettingers moved to Millburn in 1960. Mrs. Fettinger
has owned and operated Fettinger's Realty Company there
since 1964.
Mr. Fettinger has been a Cub Scout Pack leader, a board
member of the Easter Seals and Millburn Grade School Board
of Education, and was active in the Republican Party. He
worked with other members of the community to preserve and
protect the Village of Millburn.
After his retirement, the Fettingers traveled often. They
avoided planned tours and visited parts of foreign lands
less seen by tourists. Their travels took them to Portugal,
Spain, France, Italy, Turkey, Egypt, New Zealand, Australia
and China.
Mr. Fettinger is survived by his wife, Dorothy; his mother-
in-law, Clara Crump; two sisters, Marianne (Warren) Perkins
of Wilmette and Barbara Lanphier of Harvard, Ill.; his four
children, Fred (Marilyn), Ann, David (Renee) and Stephen
(Esther); seven grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.
In lieu of flowers, donations made to the Historic Millburn
Community Association, 38757 N. Highway 45, Millburn, IL
60046, would be appreciated.
