Mrs. Martin, 82, Dies; Daughter of Pioneers
MILLBURN - Mrs. Eva I. Martin, 82, granddaughter and daughter of pioneer Lake County families, died at 12:05 a.m. today in Victory Memorial Hospital, of a lingering illness.
Mrs. Martin was born May 22, 1877, at Hickory Corners on a farm north of Rte. 173 on Rte. 45 which her grandparents, John and Mary Kennedy had homesteaded. After the death of her grandparents their son, George and his wife Sarah I., Mrs. Martin's parents, lived on the farm. Upon their death another son, Frank and his wife, Maude, made the farm their home.
The former Eva Kennedy left the farm in 1908 upon her marriage Oct. 22 of that year to Edward A. Martin of Millburn. He operated a general store there for 73 years, going out of business just last year.
Mrs. Martin was a member of Millburn Congregational Church, director of the church choir for many years and church organist, and a past matron of Millburn Chapter 570, Order of Eastern Star.
She received her musical education al Valparaiso University in Indiana and her nurse's training at the German-American Hospital, Chicago.
Surviving in addition to her husband, are a son Dr. Richard P. Martin on the staff of Western Military Academy, Alton, Ill., and a sister, Mrs. Florence Linn of Los Angeles.
Services will be held at 3 p.m. Saturday in the Strang Funeral Home, Antioch. The Rev. L. H. Messersmith, pastor of Millburn Congregational Church will officiate. Burial will be in Millburn Cemetery.
Friends may call at the funeral home in Antioch after 7 p.m. tomorrow.

Eva Martin's Death Ends Link with Past
Another chapter in the community's link with the past closed Saturday, May 21 with the burial of Mrs. Eva L. Martin, 82, of Millburn
Mrs. Martin, a descendant of a pioneer family, died May 19 at Victory Memorial Hospital, Waukegan.
She had been ill some time.
The Rev. L. H. Messersmith, pastor of Millburn Congregational Church, where Mrs. Martin was a long time director of the choir and church organist, officiated at services.
Burial was in Millburn Cemetery. Friends called at the Strang Funeral Home, Antioch.
Mrs. Martin was a civic and social leader for many years. She was active in Millburn Chapter of the Eastern Star and once served as matron.
Possessed with a variety of talents, Mrs. Martin made use of all her natural gifts.
Church work gave her an opportunity to continue musical training begun at Valparaiso, Ind., University. She was also a nurse, being a graduate of Chicago's German-American Hospital.
