GIDEON THAYER DIES IN BURLINGTON HOSPITAL
Aged Antioch Man Succumbs Saturday Following Operation.
Gideon Thayer aged and respected resident of Antioch, passed away Saturday evening at Memorial hospital, Burlington, Wis., following a recent operation for stomach ulcer. For a time following the operation he seemed to be recovering, but later complications developed which caused his death Saturday. He had been in the hospital one week.
Mr. Thayer was born at Millburn, Ill., on March 13, 1852, and has made his home in and around Antioch the greater part of his life.
He was united in marriage to Emma Jane Hendee on November 13, 1875, at Libertyville, and to this union were born two daughters, Mrs. Lula Bell Vickers and Mrs. Ethel Blanche Hembrook, both of Chetek, Wis.
Besides the wife and daughters he leaves to mourn his loss eight grandchildren: Mrs. Lucile Shepherd and Cecil Vickers, of St. Paul; Russel Vickers, Marjorie, Arlene, Virgil, Rollo and Beulah Hembrook of Chetek, Wis., one great grandchild Betty Lon Shepherd, of St. Paul and three brothers. Geo. Thayer, Grayslake; Erastus Thayer, of Lake Villa; and Henry Thayer, Sand lake. Four brothers and two sisters have preceded him in death.
The funeral services were held at the home on Tuesday afternoon at 1:30 and at the Methodist church at 2:00 with burial in the Antioch Hillside cemetery.
