A Pleasant Social Event.
It was a very merry lot of people that gathered at D. J. Minto's
Tuesday evening of this week, in honor of the unexpected visit of
A. J. White, of Lyons, Nebraska. The old "sheep shearing crowd"
were all together for the first time in a good many years, of
which "Doc" used to be the unquestioned leader, back in times
before the democratic deficiency had murdered the merino. A. J.
looks and seems to feel remarkably well. His politics are
decidedly western. Allanson of Iowa will, in his mind be the
standard bearer of the Republican party in the next campaign, and
silver must be given a fair show to do the work for which it is
so well provided, i. e. paying the debts of the country, filling
the mouths of the hungry and the pockets of those that are empty.
Those present were, Mr. and Mrs. G. C. Dodge and daughter,
accompanied by her cousin Vera Worden, Mr. and Mrs. Wm. White and
sons, Mr. and Mrs. J. S. Hughes and baby Pearl, Mr. and Mrs. A.
T. White and daughters, Alice and Cora, Mr. and Mrs. Lewis
Savage, Mr. and Mrs. D. M. White, Mr. A. J. White, Miss Anna
Smith, Mr. and Mrs. H. D. Hughes, Miss Cora White elocuted, Miss
Alice White furnished the instrumental music and Miss Alice Dodge
and Miss Vera Worden sang a duet. Hughy effused, as usual.

Died, at Poplar Grove, Ill., Feb. 5, 1896, Mrs. M. B. Thain, wife
of the late John Thain, aged 90 years.

The wedding of Miss Ellen Rose and Mr. Newton Levoy took place at
the bride's home on Wednesday evening February 26, at 8 p.m. The
bride was very becomingly dressed in grey and carried white
roses. Miss Lottie Melville and Mr. Earl Murrie of Rosecrans,
were bridesmaid and groomsman. After congratulations a bountiful
repast was served to a large number of guests. They were the
recipients of many choice presents both useful and ornamental.
