New Website Address
The H.M.C.A. has a new website address. We
owe a debt of gratitude to Fred Fettinger for
serving as our webmaster and for relocating
our website out there in cyberspace! Thank
you. Fred! Visit www.hmca-il.org. There you
will find so much wonderful information,
including photographs, old newspaper
articles, biographical sketches, etc. It is truly
fascinating to read about the people and
events from Millburn long ago!
Fall Picnic
The Annual Fall Picnic will be held at Mildred
Haisma’s house on Saturday, September 18th
at 4:00 p.m. Please join us! Brats, lemonade,
and coffee will be provided. You are welcome
to bring other beverages. Please bring a dish to
pass. along with a chair. We look forward to
seeing you there! Mildred’s address is 38735
N. US Highway 45. Cars may park in her
backyard. The driveway is off of Millburn
Road.
Annual Fourth of July Celebration
A wonderful time was had by all who
attended Tim Smith’s Annual Fourth of July
Celebration! We greatly appreciate Tim’s
generosity. The fundraiser was a big success.
The fireworks were amazing, the food
delicious, and the variety of entertainment
amused people of all ages. A special thanks
to Charlotte Smith for her wonderful
horsemanship! What an accomplished rider!
First Annual Millburn Sidewalk Sale
The First Annual Millburn Sidewalk Sale was
a big success and a lot of fun! Residents
along Route 45 joined the museum in selling
their wares in downtown Millburn. Thank you
Patrick Lamb for cooking and selling brats
and pop to benefit the historical society! If
anyone would like to participate in next year’s
sale, please let us know.
Pumpkin Fest
Millburn Church is again sponsoring the 2nd
Annual Pumpkin Fest on Saturday, October
9th from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. on the church
grounds. A wide variety of activities are
planned including craft booths. Please call
Millburn Church for additional information.
Membership Dues for 2004
Thank you for renewing your membership in
the Historic Millburn Community
Association. We had a wonderful response
this year. If you know of anyone who might
be interested in joining, please have them call
Dorothy Berthold at 847-265-1967, We are
always looking for new members.
Volunteers Needed!
We desperately need volunteer shopkeepers
for Martin’s General Store Museum. Please
consider volunteering an afternoon of your
time. It’s an easy job! NO EXPERIENCE IS
NECESSARY!

From the pages of the Antioch News, September ,
1904 (100 years ago)–
Bear in mind the Old Maid's Convention
August 30.
The Millburn Creamery is receiving a
coat of paint.
The Hockaday School opened Monday,
Sept. 5, with Miss Anna Dietner, of Dixon,
Ill., as teacher.
Victor Strang, Mabelle Bonner and Vera
Worden left this week to attend school at
the Rochester Academy, Rochester, Wis.
While coming home from the Fair last
Thursday in the storm, John Crawford
was struck by lightning and knocked from
the buggy. His clothes and back were
burned quite badly and he was left very
weak from the shock.
