You’re invited to join us for a delicious potluck supper and annual membership meeting. Following the meeting and election, Tim Smith, President of the Village of Old Mill Creek, and Dorothy Berthold, HMCA Chairperson, will make a special presentation to the property owners in the Millburn Historic District. It will be a very informative and exciting evening.

Volunteers Needed!
We desperately need volunteer shopkeepers for Martin’s General Store Museum when it reopens in the spring. Please consider volunteering an afternoon of your time two or three times in 2004. It’s an easy job! NO EXPERIENCE IS NECESSARY! The museum will be closed through March. If interested, call Dorothy Berthold at 847-265-1967.
Annual Holiday Tea
A big thank you to Dorothy and Wolf Berthold for graciously inviting the members of the historical society to their home to celebrate the holidays in December! A lovely time was had by all.
Millburn Cemetery Fence Restoration
The H.M.C.A. and the Cemetery Committee of the Village of Old Mill Creek are working together to raise funds for the restoration of the Millburn Cemetery Fence. So far, the fence sections along Millburn Road have been temporarily secured and the main gate has been restored. Thanks to a few generous donations, we now have the funds needed to restore the gates that say Millburn Cemetery. Work will resume in the spring. We hope to raise additional funds to restore the remaining gates and to eventually restore the entire fence. If you would like to donate to this worthy cause, please make your check payable to the H.M.C.A. and include a note informing us that your donation is for the restoration of the fence. The donations are tax deductible.
Membership
Thank you to all of our members for their continued support of the Historic Millburn Community Association, Inc. Without membership support and donations, we would be unable to continue our mission to preserve, protect, and enhance the Village of Millburn of Old Mill Creek, Illinois.

From the Archives
Millburn Cemetery - William D. Shatswell gave the first land for a cemetery on February 27, 1850. The Millburn Cemetery Association was incorporated August 6, 1883, and made plans to move the remains to this new cemetery and to close the old cemetery. The first directors of the association were John Strang, John Bain, and Ezra Walker. Substantial improvements were made in 1912, when an elaborate fence was erected by the Smith and Mason families, in memory of their mother. It cost $3,600.
