This 40 acre parcel was recorded as being sold twice, once to the resident farmer, and owner of adjacent parcel, Benjamin W. Backus. The second recorded sale of the same property was to Julius Hitchcock, on December 16, 1844. Mr. Backus had to go to court in order to be declared the legal owner. The claim of Julius Hitchcock was set aside.
