Memorial
Resolutions of Respect in Memory of Xaver Henkel late member of Co. "C", 2d. Ill. Vol. Lt. Art. and comrade in Post 374, G. A. R.
Whereas Death has again invaded our ranks; it having pleased Almighty God, the Great Commander of the Universe to remove our beloved Comrade Xaver Henkel from the Grand Army here below to the Heavenly Camping Grounds above,
and,
Whereas This comrade was one who although born upon another soil and under a foreign flag had served the country of his adoption as a soldier, long and honorably, and had in many ways manifested his unfaltering love for the Stars and stripes and his thorough devotion to American institutions,
and,
Whereas In the loss of this Comrade our order has lost a worthy member, one who firmly believed in the great principles of the Grand Army of the Republic, we as Comrades are again reminded that it will be but a few years before the last soldier of the Grand Army shall be mustered out - therefore
Resolved That, in the death of Comrade Henkel, Waukegan Post No. 374, Department of Illinois, Grand Army of the Republic has sustained the loss of a loved and honored comrade and the community an upright and honorable citizen and his family a loved and loving husband and father.
Resolved That Waukegan Post extends to the family of the deceased in this their hour of deep affliction, the heartfelt sympathy of all its members.
Resolved That the Adjutant of this Post be directed to dedicate a page of the post records to this memorial together with the military record of the deceased and that he also be directed to send a copy of these resolutions to the family of the comrade whose loss we mourn.
