Lura E. Culver
Lura E. Culver, 98, of Lake Villa, Illinois, passed away Thursday, January 5, 1989, at the Rolling Hills Manor, Zion, Illinois.
She was born October 26, 1890, near Round Lake, Illinois. The daughter of the late Tyler and Mina Bonner Gilvert. She was born in the same house that her father was born in 1850. They were pioneers of the Round Lake area. She was a member of the Millburn Congregational Church, and had taught at several rural grade schools in the area. She was a former treasurer of the East Fox Lake Cemetery Assoc. She and her husband, Horace, were married on January 8, 1914 in Millburn, Illinois, and had farmed together for many years. Her husband, Horace, was also very active with the East Fox Lake Cemetery Assoc. for many years, until his death on September 13, 1976.
Survivors include 1 daughter, Jean Wooley, of Lake Villa, Illinois, 1 grandson, John (Su-Yun) Culver of Potomac, Maryland, and 1 great grand son David. She was preceded in death by her husband, 1 daughter, Alice Culver and by 2 sister, Ruth and Margaret Gilbert.
Funeral services will be held at 1:30 PM Monday, January 9, 1989, at the Strang Funeral Home, 1055 Main Street., Antioch, Illinois, with the Reverend Paul Meltzer of the Millburn Congregational Church officiating. Interment will be in the East Fox Lake Cemetery. Friends may call at the funeral home from noon Monday until time of service. In lieu of flowers donations may be made to the Millburn Congregational church in her memory.
