Death of Mrs. Chase E. Webb.
Died: at her home in this city, Tuesday, Feb. 18th, after a brief illness, Mrs. Jeanette Webb, wife of Sheriff Chase E. Webb.

For many years the deceased had been in poor health, having weak lungs and at times suffering from rheumatism, but had, owing to her great ambition, been able to attend to her household duties most of the time, and only a few days before her fatal illness from pneumonia set in gave an evening tea to a number of her friends. From the first the worst result was feared, and on Friday evening of last week, fully realizing that her death was near at hand, she with patient resignation talked with her husband concerning the new home to which she was going, of her trust in God, and only expressed regret that she would be taken for a time from her loved ones. Afterward each of the children according to age were summoned to her bedside, and parting counsel given them concerning their conduct during life and how best to assure a joyous family reunion when at last their earthly cares were ended. When the final summons came she was fully prepared, and passed peacefully away.

In her demise the community loses a most exemplary woman. Charitable in all things, she was ever ready to defend an ill word spoken of a friend, and to speak of their commendable traits. Her husband is called upon to mourn a faithful and devoted wife, her children a watchful and loving mother whose memory will ever remain with them as a sweet and precious inheritance. Thus it was that she came to be loved in the home circle and in the communities where she resided, and that her death is so generally mourned.

Her maiden name was Jeanette Minto, a sister of David and John Minto. She was born in the town of Antioch, and was married to her husband, who survives her, about twenty-five years since. They resided at Hickory until about three years ago, when her husband was elected Sheriff and they removed to Waukegan. The surviving children are: Misses Nellie and Maggie, David, Frank and Eddie.

Funeral services were held in the Congregational church at 11 o'clock last Thursday, being largely attended, although a host of mourning friends residing out of town were prevented from being present owing to the bad roads. The services were conducted by Rev. W. A. College, who paid a beautiful tribute to her exemplary life and character. The burial was in Oakwood cemetery.
